Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day 2010On Thursday, April 22 the Thursday Night Market will include an exciting Earth Day Celebration.

The CSU, Chico Sustainability Collaborative will host a special event in City Plaza with entertainment, activities and demonstrations— giving attendees of all ages the opportunity to learn about how they can adopt sustainable practices.

The Earth Day Celebration will run from 6-9PM and is being sponsored by organizations within the CSU, Chico Sustainability Collaborative, Tri Counties Bank and Recology.

In addition to numerous booths with activities and information, Bill Oliver, also known as "Mr. Habitat" will be doing a presentation at the event. Bill's programs are educational and entertaining, engaging and motivating. His songs bring to life the vital issues of Habitat conservation.

Throughout the evening, volunteers will be looking for people who are following sustainable practices and promoting efforts to "go green." "Caught You Being GREEN" is a way of showing market-goers appreciation for helping the planet. If someone is "Caught GREEN" they will receive a green sticker and will be the recipient of a free Tri Counties Bank Klean Kanteen or Chico Bag (while supplies last).  Those "Caught GREEN" will also be entered to win a grand prize— a beach cruiser from Chico Bike and Board. In order for someone to qualify as "Being GREEN" they must be doing one of the following things: Using a reusable bag, mug/water bottle, or ride a bike to the Thursday Night Market.  Park your bike for free at Chico Velo Club's bike valet service.
